Why Affirmations in sports?
Yes, you should do affirmations as an athlete. No matter who you are and where your confidence level is, we all need a bit of help from time to time. There is no shame in getting yourself ready for a practice, game, meet, tournament or training. Your mental game is as important as your physical game. 10% talent 90% mental is the saying, right? Well, there is a reason for that! If your head is not in the right place it is very hard for your body to respond according to what it needs to do. If you THINK you can't do that skill, guess what? You won't. There are very few people in this world, and yes, there are exceptions, that can do this and do it with excellence. Most of us, have to think it through. We have to BELIEVE in ourselves. Our coaches, parents, friends, teammates, and anyone else cheering you on can't do it for you. You are the key!
There are a few ways to do your affirmations. First, look yourself in the mirror and repeat your affirmations. (I have a few to start out with below.) Tell yourself as if you are talking to your closest friend or your child. BELIEVE it! There is also another way to say it. Instead of saying, I am a great athlete, tell yourself, You are a great athlete as you are looking into the mirror. When you are saying your affirmation, attach a good feeling to it. Your subconscious mind does not know that is not what you are truly thinking. Keep up this practice every day and before you know it, your conscious mind will believe it too!
Here are a few examples:
1. I am a great athlete
2. I am a winner
3. I am dedicated to my sport
4. I am motivated to practice
5. I enjoy training
You can find a lot more by doing a quick web search on your favorite engine.
Remember, I believe in you! I know you are doing your very best. Don't give up on yourself.
This is YOUR time!
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to add to my discussion. I would love to hear from you.
